I would like to start out by saying this..even before getting into the meaning and definition of the word worship.

Most people know about Satan (Lucifer), but do not know what his responsibility in heaven was.

He was what we today would consider the praise and worship leader (not that there was such a thing at that time), I am comparing it to today’s world to make it a little bit more illustrated.

Isahia 14: 11-15

All your pomp has been brought down to the grave,
along with the noise of your harps;
maggots are spread out beneath you
and worms cover you.

12 How you have fallen from heaven,
morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart,
“I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.”
15 But you are brought down to the realm of the dead,
to the depths of the pit.

Ezekiel (in reference to the King of Tyre).

Ezekiel 28: 13-19

“‘You were the seal of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,
topaz, onyx and jasper,
lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.[
Your settings and mountings[
c] were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.
16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.
17 Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.
18 By your many sins and dishonest trade
you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,
and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
in the sight of all who were watching.
19 All the nations who knew you
are appalled at you;
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.’”

Why is it important that we know this?

Because once you understand what Satan’s “specialty” is, you might get a deeper understanding of how his main influence here on earth is.

He uses music as his primary way to reach us. We are exposed to music at all times (think about where all you here music).

Our children have a constant stream of music somewhere. The groceries store, TV, radio, alarm clock etc.

We are surrounded by it consciously and sub-consciously. Music is a powerful tool to use for or against someone. Just think a minute on how certain styles of music make you feel.

For those of you who deny the fact that music makes them a feel a certain way…Sorry I don’t believe you.

Music makes us happy, sad, it even empowers us sometimes. Than of course there is the type of music that sends us down memory lane.

Yes..Music is powerful. It is more important to pay attention to what we listen to than you think.

I heard it said…Well rap and heavy metal, that is evil stuff, but my country music don’t hurt nobody.

Country music is just as evil as a song from a heavy metal band.

Country songs talk about partying and having hot chicks by your side, cheating and even names certain types of beer they got drunk on.

Time to realize, bad comes in many shapes, sizes and you guessed it right….sounds.

Satan knows how to trigger certain emotions in us thru music because he knows that most of us walk by feelings and not by faith.

2.Corinthians 5:7

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

It is so easy to give into our emotions, weather it be sadness, happiness, or anger.

We need to truly get an understanding about praise, worship, and our role in the body as worshipers in the body of Christ.

I hope the following will give you exactly that…a deeper understanding.

The word “worship” has different translations, depending on what language we are taking it from.

Considering the fact that Jesus was Jewish, I took liberty to take the Hebrew definition of the word.

Worship – Shachah: “To depress, i.e. prostrate (in homage to royalty of God); Bow (self) down, crouch, fall down (flat), humbly beseech, do (make) obeisance, do reference, make to stoop, worship”.

In order o worship God, we have to understand what worship really means.

Most of us have adapted to the simple trend of worship being the songs the worship team in church sings as a preachers introduction on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Not quite so!

I think the most important thing we need to understand, is the fact that worship is more than a song sang by a team of musicians.

God calls us to worship him in spirit and in truth.

John 4:23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him”.

That is only possible if we walk in the spirit!

Galations 5:16 “I say then: Walk in the spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galations 5:25 “If we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit”.

There are more ways to worship God than singing songs.

To live in obedience and honor God’s comments. To show kindness and love when there is no reward in sight. To make sacrifices for those who hate you. To trust God when the world around you is crumbling. To completely give your live to Christ and rely on only Him, now that is worship.

If you do come together in the house of God to praise and worship as a body of Christ, do it with all your heart.

What I mean is this:

There is such a thing as ignorant worship:

Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

Know this: Ignorant worship is not pleasing to God. God desires to be worshiped by a conscious praise of his name.

God does not tolerate ignorant worship.

Acts 17:30

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.

There is such a thing as vain worship:

Matthew 15: 7-9

You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.

Worshiping only where other people might see you, is considered vain worship and accomplishes nothing.

As a matter of fact, sooner or later it will not only burn you, but also burn you out.

What happens between you and God behind closed doors, when you truly worship him in all you do, makes all the difference in the world.

Understanding that you can feel the presence of God right in your own four walls,knowing that you do not have to wait to go to church for your spirit to be lifted, is very important in your walk with God.

There is such a thing as true worship:

Romans 12: 1

[ A Living Sacrifice ] Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

True worship is the essence of our successful walk with Christ.

Without understanding worship, we do not understand the heart of God.

God loves worship so much, and it is so important to him, that basically everything in heaven is based around it.

Revelations 4: 8-11

 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy

is the Lord God Almighty,’[a]

who was, and is, and is to come.”

9.Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever,the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,

 and by your will they were created
and have their being.”

Worshiping the most high God with all that is within us, that is what we are to do. Regardless of age, race or gender.

How do we start?

Ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit.

Start praising him for all things.

Worship him while you walk and talk. Be under the influence of music that brings honor to God.

Make sure the writer of your favorite music is a God loving person. Because if he/she follows Christ, than the music he/she wrote is Christ like.

Be blessed!
